Six Great Edinburgh Restaurants

Posted on

We have recently relocated to Edinburgh and we can't get enough of this city. The architecture, the history, the people and the food. There are so many amazing places to eat and we have only just scraped the surface but here are a few of our favourites so far.

Montpeliers

When people recommend brunch in Edinburgh Montpeliers is always top of the list. Located in the heart of beautiful Bruntsfield they work closely with local suppliers.  It is so popular that you need to book although they do keep a few tables for walk ins.

MAiK recommends:  Truffle Mac'n'Cheese.

Henderson's

Opened in 1962, Hendersons Shop & Deli is Edinburgh's original farm shop serving freshly grown organic produce from Janet Henderson's East Lothian farm. As well as the shop they have two vegan restaurants and a salad bar. You wont miss the meat with their amazing menu.

MAiK recommends: Vegan Chocolate Nut Cake.

The Outsider

Located on the George VI Bridge a stones throw from Greyfriars Bobby is The Outsider. The menu changes weekly using the freshest local ingredients and lunch prices range from £4.40 for a bowl of soup to £7.80 for venison ciabatta. We challenge you to find anywhere in Edinburgh with such good value for money.

MAiK recommends: Everything!

Freshly-made, authentic Mexican street food located on Thistle Street in the centre of Edinburgh. They have an extensive range of tequilas, cocktails and frozen margaritas. They don't take reservations so be prepared to queue in the evenings but once you are in it is a lively atmosphere.

MAiK recommends: Duck Carnitas.

Earthy Foods

Earthy believes that if you eat well, you live well and their mission is to help you achieve that. They have three busy shops, a bustling Causewayside café and our atmospheric bistro in Canonmills. They sell food and drink from over 100 local producers as well as stocking your favourite eco friendly household products. We love to stop for a bite to eat after walking down The Water of Leith.

MAiK recommends: Smoked Mackerel Fishcakes.

The Three Birds

The Three Birds a gluten free favourite for MAiK London

We only discovered The Three Birds at the weekend and we can't wait to go back! We were so excited to discover that everything was gluten free unless marked with a * and there was only one * on the menu! They use local suppliers, everything is made in house and the staff are F-U-N! Tip - book a table to avoid disappointment.

MAiK recommends: Beef Fillet Rendang.

Note - all of these restaurants catered for Gluten and Lactose intolerances.
