Barcelona has a vibrant food scene with world-class chefs, innovative cooking and fresh ingredients from both the land and sea. This is amazing unless you’re one of the unlucky people that has being diagnosed with Coeliac Disease or simply prefer to avoid gluten and dairy for health reasons. Finding food that you can eat in a foreign country can be a stressful experience so we thought we would share a few of our favourite Gluten Free / Dairy Free friendly places to grab a bite to eat in Barcelona.
“Copasetic” means “completely satisfactory,” which is exactly what it is! When you walk into the cafe it is a delight on the eyes; the space has a 20's inspired interior design and a relaxed vibe.
The menu has a Mediterranean base with a selection of soups, burgers, crepes and salads. There is a gluten free and dairy free option for almost every dish. The two dishes that blew us away were the American pancakes with maple syrup and fresh berries and the chicken burger with a lime and coriander dressing.

Stepping into the dining hall of La Lluna is like going back in time yet just yards from the hustle and bustle of El Born. The restaurant is proudly Catalan as is the menu and when you arrive you are treated to a complimentary glass of cava.
It is considered to be one of the best gluten-free restaurants in Barcelona and there is still a wide variety of choices if you are dairy free too. From fish of the day, to confit duck, to Asian wok noodles the dishes are packed with fresh flavours and ingredients. The menu clearly marks each gluten-free dish, so it is really easy to see your options and they have an additional allergen menu which lists the allergens in each dish. The choice of dairy and gluten free dishes are more limited but the staff are helpful and they have gluten free soy sauce. watatsumi.es
Conesa is Barcelona's gluten free answer to grabbing food on the go, sometime you don't want to sit down for a full meal but it is a challenge being gluten free. Conesa has a special sandwich menu made with gluten free bread guaranteed by their suppliers and in collaboration with the Coeliac Association in Catalunya SMAP.
You can choose from meat or vegetarian, hot or cold sandwich fillings and there are plenty of dairy free options on the menu. There are two locations, one just off Plaça Sant Jaume, (Jaume 1 metro) and a second venue in on Creu Coberta 80 near Plaça d'Espanya. conesaentrepans.com
